Finnegan to cycle 100KM “Ride for Life” followed by a fun filled fundraiser
A courageous man from Balbriggan is hosting a charity cycle and fundraiser night on Saturday April 21st all in aid of Suicide or Survive (S.O.S). Tony Finnegan is no stranger to fundraising for charity but this year he decided to step it up and organise three events in the one day. Cyclists from all around Ireland will be travelling up to this north county for these events.
The aim of these three events is to raise awareness for the shocking increase in suicide in Ireland and also raise funds for the Dublin based charity S.O.S.  The first part of the event is a 100KM ride for life which involves all participants cycling a single loop of the north county area. The Ring Commons Sports Centre has offered their facilities and refreshments for this cycle to begin there and finish up there. The cycle will include a lap starting in the Sports Centre at 11am then they will pass through Balbriggan, Gormanston, Julianstown, Drogheda, Slane, Duleek, Ashbourne, Swords, Lusk, Balrothery and back into the Sports Centre. If you wish to register for this 100KM cycle you can get in touch with Tony Finnegan on his Facebook for details. Please note this is a charity cycle and NOT a race. They will be keeping together as much as possible and as safely as possible. The second part of the day is a 7KM walk or run that will begin at 2pm sharp from the Ring Commons Sports Centre for people who cannot participate in the cycle this 7KM walk/jog is perfect for many to get involved. This is going to be a massive day out, there is tea/coffee/sandwiches and chocolate available all day long, with a live DJ and bouncy castles for the kids so come and support all of the athletes taking part in both our challenging events.
The third part of this charity event is the fundraiser night which is also taking place on Saturday April 21st at 8.30pm sharp. The City North Hotel is the sponsor for this event and also the location of the fundraiser night. The “Comedy and Music” night promises to be an exciting night just like last year with many exciting comedians and music acts live on the night. Local Balbriggan band 'The Ourz' and well known band 'Flinch Rock' will be performing on the night. Also, James McCabe from the band Stone Motion will be performing a solo performance. James McCabe has played at Ireland’s biggest music festival Oxygen and also all over Europe & America.
Well known comedians Shane Browne & Gary English will also be there on the night and if that is not enough, there will be an exciting raffle with many lovely prizes to be won on the night. The City North Hotel is also offering discounts for the cyclists and also those who are attending this fundraiser event if they wish to stay over. It is sure to be a great night with a DJ after the bands and comedians, and also a late bar will be open until 3am for attendees.
The tickets are €10 for the public and €5 for those who are cycling or doing the walk/run that day, which can be purchased at the Reception desk on the night.
The organiser Tony Finnegan spoke to me about his excitement for the day and night and said, ''I have seen first-hand the destruction it can do to not only families but communities too. I have been in close contact with fellow sufferers of this terrible illness and seen that something needed to be done sooner rather than later. That’s when I came in contact with my chosen charity, SOS. With this event on April 21st, I hope to raise more awareness and funds for SOS as it is a great cause, promoting Suicide Awareness in the locality.”
If you are interested in helping Tony fundraise for the great cause Suicide or Survive, you can purchase tickets for this fun filled night from the Reception Desk in the City North Hotel at the event.
